I recently created the art for Trey Gunn’s amazing new album Modulator. The concept of is a unique one. Drummer Marco Minnemann recorded a 51 minute live drum solo and invited certain musicians to record over the top of it. Marco is no ordinary drummer and his solo is insanely complex. Trey felt that this experience was the most difficult recording that he’s ever done. This, coming from a man who spent many years in King Crimson, is saying a lot.
As I like to hear the music that I’m creating art for, Trey kindly provided a rough disc of the music. I generally create in a somewhat improvisational way, taking a journey visually and following my eye wherever it leads me.
